The Art Of Living
Open House Exhibition
December 2025
Jack, Bea and I moved into our house in Brixham three years ago, the first place we could buy rather than rent and extra-special to be secured with the money we’d manage to save up from my painting career. After so long in rented houses, having to be extra careful about everything (especially regarding paint), it was such a relief to have a place of our own, and the paint gradually started to make its way off of the canvas in my home studio and onto the walls.
Fast forward three years and there’s barely a blank wall, floor or ceiling left. Scenes from our travels adorn walls, from a street scene in Paris to the pudding houses of Tiree, snowcapped mountains of the Arctic to turquoise Scilly bays and fields of sunflowers.
I’d inadvertently turned my 160m2 house into a giant 400m2 painting. I couldn’t keep it all to myself, so for five days in December I opened it up to 500 visitors from near and far - not to mention international press and TV - all keen to see my five-bed mid-terrace with a (Hockney inspired) pool.
